Rotary Dial Alignment

I exited the residential hallway and descended via the stairwell base to the ground floor parcel bank. A bank of matte gray lockers lined the recessed wall. On locker seventeen, a mechanical three-digit combination lock was set into the steel door recess. I stepped onto the narrow sheet-metal lip beneath the rows. Bracing my left hand against the locker frame, I pressed the side of my rotary barrel against the serrated edge of the central dial. I applied steady downward friction. The tumbler turned, engaging its internal detent with a crisp, tactile click. The second digit shifted from four to five. The alignment holds true.
