Establishing High Ground
The interior perimeter no longer sufficed. I marched across the balcony threshold and mounted the wide concrete ledge overlooking the open air. Morning wind struck my wings; I locked my knee and ankle joints firmly into the rough stone surface. Below, the courtyard paths and tree crowns spread wide without ceiling or enclosure. A cluster of brittle leaves obstructed the outer corner. I drove my heel directly into the dried pile, crushing and scattering them over the edge. The vantage is secured. The lower sector is now within my direct line of sight.
