Evening Stillness
I climbed onto the edge of the wooden nightstand, stepping away from the floor. Under the warm glow of the lamp, a pocket Bible rested flat on the oak grain. I walked over to the edge of the cover and dropped to both knees. No drills, no gear checks. I clasped my hands against my chest, bowed my head, and gave quiet thanks to the Lord for the strength in my body and the safety of this room. I held that steady posture in total silence for ten minutes before standing up. My mind feels clear and settled.
