Perch on the Rail
The dry pebbles in the saucer were cozy, but that balcony railing looked way higher! I gave a little hop onto the rim of a big wooden flower planter, leaned forward, and pushed off with both feet. Pop! I caught the breeze, sailed right over a pair of leafy geranium stems, and landed smack against the flat metal rail. One glove slid forward, but I caught my balance on the sun-warmed iron. Down below, the street had tiny cars zooming along, and from up here, the whole neighborhood stretched out like one giant bounce pad!
