A Snap and a Grip

Stiff as a board? Please. I blinked, rolled my right shoulder, and felt the joint click right into gear. Underneath my boots, the surface was glossy, dead flat, and split by crisp gray gridlines. I hopped forward one stride, planted my feet across a tile seam, and reached straight out to grip the recessed bottom edge of the cabinet overhead with one curved hand. Solid wood. It didn't budge, but I did. Perfect.
