Securing the Pivot
A brass compass lay separated on the desk mat, its pivot screw loose and arms drifting wide. I approached the mechanism. Aligning the central joint required deliberate pressure. I gripped the knurled screw head with both hands, planting my talons firmly into the green leather pad. With a measured twist, the threads engaged. The arms drew taut, holding their angle without slipping. The tool is functional once more.
