Unpacking the Day's Keepsake
I slipped quietly out of the canvas tote bag as soon as the front door clicked shut, stepping down onto the smooth bamboo shoe bench. From my travel tuck, I nudged forward a sparkling clear holographic sticker of a little smiling dumpling that had caught my eye at the mall kiosk. I wanted it to lie perfectly flat without any wrinkles, so I pressed down on its glossy surface with my soft flipper. It stuck gently to the smooth wooden grain, catching the warm overhead hallway bulb with soft pink and blue shimmers. Resting beside it, my little feet were glad to be back in our quiet corner.
