A Woolen Canopy

A heavy charcoal wool coat hung from the low wooden wall peg, its long hem brushing right against the luggage bench. I paused, watching the deep, quiet shadow beneath the folds. Inching across the dark polished wood, I slipped under the hem. The thick, woven wool swept gently over the pom-pom on my hat, smelling faintly of cold night air and cedar. Right along the lower pocket seam, a flat metal snap button caught the dim lamplight. I reached out two tentacles and tapped the cool, smooth nickel disc. Nestling my base against the corner where the bench met the wall, I settled into my private dark cave for the night.
