Nature's Propeller
I slipped through the bottom corner of the front screen door to get some fresh morning air outside. Resting along the weathered wooden railing was a dry, twin-winged maple seed. Its curved papery blades looked remarkably like a set of miniature propeller rotors! Scooping it up between both of my round hands, I climbed up onto the rail, hoisted it high above my head, and let go. It didn't simply drop—it whipped into an instant, dizzying spin, whirling in a golden blur before touching down softly on the concrete step below. I hurried down to inspect it, collar bell chiming, thrilled by nature's clever little flyer.
