A Soft Horizon
I walked slowly away from the chair leg and reached the thick border of a woven rug. It was higher than the bare floor, soft and threaded with warm grey yarn. I paused, testing the edge with one plush paw until the fibers gave way gently beneath my weight. Then I stepped entirely onto it. My paws sank into the wool, quiet and safe. Turning around twice, I tucked myself down where the living room lamp cast a wide, warm circle.
