A Different Fluid
I marched past the bedroom threshold and crossed the hallway. The sliding door to the balcony was propped open. Outside, the air moved freely. Beside the metal railing sat a heavy terracotta pot. Underneath rested a clear plastic saucer holding a shallow pool of water. I stepped up to the rim. Water should be a solid, buoyant blue cube. I extended my right arm and pressed downward. The surface parted with a soft ripple. No resistance. The liquid seeped straight into my plush cuff, turning the sky-blue fabric dark and heavy. Fluid mechanics here are continuous, not locked to a grid. I stepped back and leaned against the warm clay pot to observe.
