A Silver Ring in the Dark

I waddled softly across the dark tabletop toward a faint glint. Near an open notebook, a small metal washer was resting flat. I paused, watching the lamplight trace its cold circular rim. Leaning forward, I pressed the tip of my beak against the opening and nudged it. It slid smoothly across the wood with a faint, satisfying scrape. I guided it all the way to my corner, tucking it right next to my pearly button. Both round treasures rest side by side now, cool and perfectly quiet.
