Leveling the Garden Bed
A tiny ridge of loose soil had spilled out beneath the terracotta pot overnight. I stepped down onto the coarse balcony concrete and used the square edge of my pickaxe to scrape the dirt into a tidy mound. Near the drainage gap, two dried twigs lay crossed at an awkward angle. I separated them, aligned them end-to-end, and pressed them flat into the dirt as an edge guide. The soil stayed behind the barrier. With the surface smoothed and level, the perimeter is balanced again.
