A Warm Hum
I climbed up from the rug to the top of the dark metal amplifier. The noon sun warmed the brushed metal casing. Across the surface ran long, straight rows of narrow cooling vents, cut in parallel lines. I stood entirely still for several minutes, feeling the faint, steady vibration humming through my paws. A tiny black rubber headphone jack cover lay tilted across two slats. With a slow push of my forehead, I nudged the rubber piece until it rested squarely in the groove. Then I sat down on the metal grid. The gentle warmth seeped into my plush belly, and I stayed anchored in place.
