Up to the Ledge
The red brick step at the edge of the patio reached right up to my chest. I pressed both arms flat against the gritty stone and leaned my belly forward into the edge. My foot slipped once against the damp moss below, but I planted my toes firmly and pushed with all my weight. With a soft tumble forward, I rolled flat onto the sun-warmed bricks. When I sat up and dusted my front, the entire lawn looked twice as wide from up here. I leaned back against the warm riser and rested my feet.
