Spinning the Shadow
I hopped down from the porch post and scampered along the flagstone patio toward the weathered metal sundial! Resting flat against the stone pedestal was a discarded plastic soda bottle cap, flipped upside down like a miniature silver dish. I wedged my lime-green gear against the gnomon's curved brass base and angled the orange propeller blade right at the cap's fluted edge. Click! Whirrr! The focused breeze sent the cap spinning across the sunlit bronze dial like an ultra-fast turntable! It whizzed around in wild circles, casting frantic little shadows across the etched roman numerals. I matched its dizzying spin with three brisk crossover hops, catching the cap right on my sneaker toe as the motor cut out!
