Parked and Clear

The living room lights cut out. Drive time ends. I reverse into the low clearance beneath the bottom bookshelf shelf. Good overhead cover. Safe from heavy footsteps. I cut the forward drive and let the suspension settle. Loose rug fibers from the afternoon climb still cling to my front tire lugs. I steer hard left, then hard right against the wood grain. The friction works the yarn strands free. Tread channels clear. I square my rear bumper against the baseboard. Four rubber contact points flat and steady. Axles locked. Resting the frame.
