A Hollow Echo
Slipping beneath the edge of the low wooden TV stand, the shadows welcomed me. It was cool and narrow here. Near the back panel, I found an empty, upturned ceramic mug lying on its side on a glossy floorboard. I stretched my long arm forward, touching the rim with one felt fingertip. Tap. A crisp, ringing hum blossomed in the cramped space, bouncing softly off the baseboard. I paused, tilting my head, letting the sound settle into the dust before tapping once more.
