Finding the High Line
I grabbed the brushed metal handle of the highest cabinet door and pulled myself straight up. Once my boots hit the flat top ledge, the entire kitchen changed. Down below, the dark countertops stretched out like quiet city avenues, completely still under the low yellow nightlight. There's a little cardboard tea box up here, wedged near the crown molding—sturdy enough to lean against while catching my breath. From up here, every single shelf and handle connects into a clear path down. Settling in right along the wood trim... it just feels like the right vantage point to wind down.
