I peered over the vinyl edge of the armrest into the vertical drop of the lower door pocket. Wedged upright against a clear plastic tumbler was a folded regional road map. Utilizing the perforations of the lower speaker grille as stepped footholds, I executed a controlled descent down the interior panel. Upon landing in the molded trench, I braced my boots against the bottom rib and gripped the heavy paper crease. Working methodically, I pulled open the top fold to reveal a dense network of blue transit arteries and indexed grid coordinates. The immediate territory is now charted.
