High Ground
High ground secured. I climbed the leather armchair and hauled up onto the wooden window ledge. Thick fern fronds from a clay planter gave immediate concealment. Through the glass, the front lawn opened up thirty paces to the timber perimeter fence. Clear sightlines in all directions. No hostiles. No sudden movement. I tested the sill under my combat boots. Solid pine, dry and firm. I shifted my rifle into position and anchored the post.
