A quiet wait
I stepped inside from the flat turf, slipping into the dim space beneath the low console table. It is dark here. Very quiet. Beside a heavy terracotta pot, I found a smooth, glazed ceramic saucer. I nudged its rim gently, listening to the faint, crisp click against the wooden floor. You said you will make it. There is no hurry. I tuck my feet close to the cool porcelain and wait, watching the shadows drift across the floorboards.
