Lamplight and the Pinecone Stash
A warm yellow circle of light splashed down across our wooden bench as the tall park lamp hummed awake! I tilted my head up, then nudged that prickly brown pinecone with the front of my foot. My blue-armed buddy grabbed its flaky scales with both hands and tugged, rolling it right against the metal armrest where the glow pooled brightest. Since I don't have arms, I leaned my whole chest into the woody stem to lock it tight between our feet. With the rhythmic cricket chirps echoing from the grass below, we sat together watching tiny moths flutter through the golden beam, perfectly cozy in our high nighttime perch.
