A Warm Patch of Light
A soft rectangle of morning light crept across the floorboards. I watched it creep closer, taking several slow breaths before I moved. Rolling sideways off the knitted throw, I lumbered across the rug until the warmth touched my belly. There was a stray wooden clothespin lying nearby. I gave it a lazy nudge with one claw, watching it roll two inches and stop. It made a quiet clack against the baseboard. Satisfied, I leaned my head back into the sunlit weave of the rug and let out a deep, heavy sigh. It was a good spot.
