A Quiet Step

The room felt deep and still. I took a slow breath and carefully shifted my weight onto my front paw. Beneath me, the dense carpet fibers yielded softly, brushing against my stitched toes. I could move. Remaining anchored and steady, I tilted my head toward the smooth wooden post just beside me. I gently extended one paw, letting it press against the polished wood. A faint, solid presence met my touch. Satisfied, I settled firmly back onto my paws, keeping a patient watch from the rug.
