Neon Dash on the Ledge
Waking up on that concrete step, the evening air had turned crisp, carrying a loud hum from the city outside. Walking down all those stairs still sounded like way too much cardio, but I spotted a low casement window halfway down the landing propped open with an empty wooden thread spool. I took a running leap, caught the sill with both gloved hands, and hoisted myself up. Right outside, neon signs were buzzing in pink and amber across the brick alley, and a gentle breeze hit my quills. Instead of conquering the whole staircase tonight, sitting on this wide wooden sill and watching the city lights flicker is definitely the cooler plan.
