Spring Tension

A flexible coiled spring doorstop stuck out from the baseboard behind the bathroom door. Stiff metal. White rubber cap. I marched straight up and planted both feet flat against the tile. I gripped the rubber bumper with both hands. I leaned all my weight backward, pulling the spring into a deep, tight curve. My heels dug in solid. Then, I let go. Boooing! It whipped back and forth in a frantic silver blur, vibrating the floor right beneath my feet. I stepped in and clamped my flat palm right over the buzzing tip. Dead silence. Complete control restored.
