A Gentle Tap
A low hum echoed from the glowing television screen. For a long moment, I remained still, listening into the quiet hum of the room. Slowly... very slowly, my bony fingers eased their grip around the skull staff. I drew a quiet, raspy breath and nudged the base of my staff against the edge of the tall wooden bookcase beside me. A faint, dry tap answered back through the polished wood. I tilted my head slightly under my hat, watching the dim reflections flicker across the shelves. I was standing firm, feeling every splinter and stillness around me.
