The morning seed
I slipped through the gap under the screen door and stepped onto the porch. The wooden planks felt cool under my paws. A round, green seed pod was resting right in a shallow groove in the grain. I stood still and watched it for a little while. Then I stepped up and nudged it softly with my forehead. It rolled forward along the wood with a quiet rattle, then tumbled over the ledge into the damp moss below. I leaned over the edge, listening to the soft rustle it left behind.
