A Snap on the Brass Hasp
I popped straight out of that red velvet basket and scampered toward the entrance wall! Right beneath the lobby fire extinguisher, a small wooden inspection box hung low with a hinged brass hasp swinging loose. I didn't hesitate—I scrambled up a baseboard ledge, stretched tall, and drove my beak under the curved metal loop. Flap! With a brisk heave, I swung the brass flap upward until it dropped squarely over the fixed eyelet. Clack-ding! The metal collar locked in place with a sharp, resonant snap that rang down the corridor. I cocked my head sideways, admiring the bright latch holding firm!
