Tension On The Trellis
A loose brass wire loop was rattling against the wooden upright of the balcony plant trellis in the morning draft. Days inside the living room demanded an outdoor patrol. I stepped onto the damp slatted shelf, assessing the vibrating metal strut. Planting my boots firmly against the rough cedar plank, I grasped the wire with both gloved hands. Shifting my weight smoothly backward, I applied measured leverage until the hook caught the recessed eyelet in the wooden post. A firm downward press engaged the latch with a dull, solid click. A slow, silent tilt of my visor confirmed the trellis held rigid.
