The Morning Hum
A steady, low hum thrummed through the floorboards. I crept forward slowly, inch by inch, until the springy carpet ended and smooth, cool tiles met my front pads. The quiet rumble grew deeper beneath my chest. Right at the dark recess beneath the refrigerator door, I tucked my limbs close and flattened my belly against the chilly surface. The metal vibrated softly, sending a calm, rhythmic pulse through every stitch.
