A Quieter Sort of Treasure
I took a few careful steps away from the baseboard, keeping my hands steady around the edge of my paper bag. The wooden floor was cool and rather wide. Right near the shadow of the low bookshelf, I spotted a pale, dried pumpkin seed lying flat against the grain. I set my bag down with a soft rustle, brought out my little rock, and set them side by side. Neither of them was candy, of course... Good grief. But they seemed rather peaceful together, so I tucked the seed right into the bag alongside the stone.
