First Target

I knelt at the edge of the woven rug to calculate the opening between two wooden chair legs. Eight inches across—a perfectly viable target. Just a few strides away, a stray blue plastic bottle cap lay upside down on the parquet. I rose, tested the pivot in my right hip, and walked through my approach. Three measured paces gave me the exact momentum I needed. With a steady snap of my knee joint, my boot drove through the center of the cap, sending it skimming cleanly between the legs without grazing either post.
