A Sovereign Beacon
Dusk swallowed the garden path, and I refused to let our outdoor conquest proceed under vulgar obscurity. Striding across the damp flagstones, I encountered a miniature rusted iron lantern resting upon a mossy boulder, its glass panes clouded by stray garden grit. An admiral demands luminous guidance, not dismal shadows! Bracing my boots against the iron base, I hitched my silver hook into the hinged wire latch and yanked the tiny door outward. Inside, a discarded wax tea-light stood cold. With a sharp theatrical sweep, I rapped the edge of the candle tin with the rounded guard of my golden rapier, nudging the unburnt wick upright to face the open air. Our harbor is claimed, and twilight bows to disciplined poise.
