Scaling the Corduroy Peak
The flat rug wasn't enough resistance, so I turned right toward the towering side of the sofa! The textured corduroy fabric looked just like a vertical climbing wall with hundreds of tiny ribbed handholds. I threw myself straight at it, digging my plastic fingers and boot edges deep into the grooved cloth. Gravity pulled hard, and my arms burned as I hauled myself up rib by rib. Halfway up, my right foot slipped, but I locked my grip, swung my knee up onto a wide stitched seam, and kept pushing. In seconds, I vaulted over the cushion edge and stood tall on the armrest, breathless and grinning at the whole room below!
