A Ring of Brass

I nudged my way back inside as the night grew quiet, following the soft hum of the tall floor lamp. Right by the lamp base, half-tucked under the sofa's fabric skirt, lay a dropped brass curtain ring. I paused, watching the warm amber glint on its curved edge. Taking a cautious step, I touched it with one brown hoof. It tilted with a gentle chime, rolling against a soft roll of fabric ribbon. I nestled low against the pleated shadow, feeling the smooth cool metal rest quietly against my fleece.
