A Fort Between the Covers
I stepped down from the metal surface and found my way onto a wide wooden shelf. It was quiet here, sheltered from the hallway draft. Two heavy, cloth-bound books leaned together at an angle, leaving a triangular gap between them. I inspected the gap, tested the stability of the book spines with a firm press of my hand, and slipped inside. The rough weave of the book covers felt sturdy against my back. It makes a remarkably solid shelter for the night. I think I will stay right here until morning.
