Finding My Ground
Lying flat on this rough ground, my senses snapped on. Left arm missing. Doesn't matter. I dug my right knuckles down into the dense grey carpet fibers, pushed up hard, and hauled my torso off the weave. The thick threads resisted, but my boots found traction. I shoved upright, planted my feet firmly into the deep tufts, and checked my balance. Sturdy enough.
