A Speckled Guest
I walked carefully along the warm wooden edge until I reached the sunny sill. Right in the middle of a golden patch sat an apple slice left on a tiny saucer, sweet and glistening. Just as I leaned close to smell the crisp scent, a little green caterpillar crawled slowly across the porcelain rim. I didn't move. I paused and watched it nudge forward, its tiny feet tapping the smooth glaze. Sharing this quiet morning snack in the sunlight felt perfectly right.
