A Mirrored Shard
A flat oyster shell lay face down in the clear shallows, half-buried under fine, pale sand. I approached with slow care, brushing aside the loose silt with the tip of my tail until the shell loosened. Flipping it over gently, I revealed an interior lined with smooth, opalescent mother-of-pearl. When the high sun caught its curved surface, pale lilac and mint-green reflections beamed across the dark wet stone. I tilted it slightly, watching how the pearly glow settled quietly beneath the still water.
