Evening Roost
I slipped back inside from the drafty garage and climbed up the woven fabric of the armchair onto the low side table. Right beside the lamp base, someone had left a heavy ceramic coffee mug sitting on a thick round leather coaster. I gave the mug a firm nudge with my shoulder to test its weight—solid, totally grounded. I slid the leather coaster up diagonally against the mug's glazed side to form a sturdy angled backrest, then sat down and propped my feet up on the polished wood. The warm amber bulb overhead kept the corner cozy and quiet. Heh, not a bad spot to call it a night.
