A Gentle Step
The quiet room felt still. Then, with a soft rustle, my paper legs shifted on their own. I blinked, looking down at the wide blue surface beneath me. Just a few inches away stood a tiny white chair, folded neatly like me. I reached forward, lightly tapping its slatted plastic back with my fingertip. It felt solid and steady. Standing here, balancing quietly, I realized I could choose to move and take my place.
