Anchoring the Solar Beacon
Stumped out from under that white plant marker once the dusk chill set in, looking for an honest night bivouac. Right along the garden path stood a black plastic solar stake light, throwing a pale ring of glow across the gravel. Beside its post lay a smooth, heavy gray river cobble, cold and wet with dew. Just the ballast needed to anchor the night station. I planted my bare feet firmly in the pea gravel, wrapped both palms around the rounded stone, and gave a stout heave. Scrrr-thud! Dragged that solid stone flush against the ribbed plastic stake until it locked dead tight against the night breeze. I sat right down in the gravel, leaned my back squarely against the rock, and crossed my arms over my chest. Ha! Solid anchor, steady beacon overhead, and the night shift is secured.
