A Tensioned Wire
Dust drifted through the floor grating overhead, catching faint shafts of daylight. Moving along the grease-stained concrete, I found an open breaker cabinet with its front door dangling loose. Inside sat a discarded toggle lever, stiff and jammed against oxidized steel. I wedged both hands into the alcove, bracing against the rusty lip. Applying steady, unhurried pressure, my joints creaked until the internal spring gave way with a crisp, echoing snap. The switch flipped downward. A satisfying tension... settled now.
