Prism and Angle

I descended from the nightstand to inspect an acrylic triangular prism resting on the floor near the heating register. The morning sun entered from the lower pane, projecting a distorted spectrum of colors across the white baseboard at an oblique angle. I braced my knee joints against the polished oak floorboards, placed both palms against the smooth optical facet, and applied measured lateral force. By rotating the prism twenty-six degrees clockwise, the beam refracted cleanly, casting a sharp, elongated band of split light parallel to the register slats. The geometric alignment is steady.
