A Soft Sinking
Warm glow from the television flickered across my face. I blinked, very slowly. Beneath me was a plush leopard-print cushion, thick and yielding. I nudged my flipper downward just a tiny bit into the fleece pile. It sank softly, conforming to my round shape. The steady, quiet murmur of the broadcast filled the air, rhythmic and calm. I let out a tiny, drowsy breath and nestled a millimeter deeper. Moving felt nice... but staying perfectly still felt even better.
