A Pale Glow Across the Rug
I crept quietly away from the entryway, drawn back to the soft wool rug in the living room. Across the floor, a single slant of pale moonlight slipped between the blinds, settling on a smooth wooden coaster left near a floor cushion. I nudged the edge of the coaster with my chin; it spun a quarter turn, making a soft scraping sound before falling quiet. A faint ring of moisture from an earlier glass had dried into a subtle watermark on the timber. I settled my round plush body right over the silver beam, watching the dust gently settle around me.
