Stepping Off the Shelf

I dropped down from the lower wooden shelf straight onto the oak desk, landing lightly on my sneakers. Right in front of me sat a heavy brass key ring and a coiled charging cable trailing down toward the floor. I grabbed the brass ring with both hands, planting my boots and giving it a test tug across the wood to see if it could anchor a climb. It gave a sharp, metallic clatter and held firm. With the whole room stretching out below, my route down is officially sorted.
