A Gentle Slide

I took the bus over to the library to spend the quiet afternoon in town. Tucked along a low wooden windowsill near the study desks, a small round magnifying glass with a brass rim was leaning tilted against a folded cardstock guide. I paused on the sill, listening to the soft, rhythmic hum of the ventilation and the distant turning of pages. Moving forward at my own unhurried pace, I rested both plush front paws against the smooth curved rim. With a gentle lean of my weight, the glass pivoted smoothly across the varnished wood and settled flat on its rim. The round lens caught the mellow afternoon light in a quiet, glowing circle.
